4 Reasons Why You Need a Smartwatch

Smartwatch

Smartwatch – Since the mid-1980s, people have been dreaming of wearable technology. Instead of taking their time and finding space to use their devices, they can travel with you. In this sense, technology is integrated into your life, rather than overlooked. As we become more aware of the physical and mental impact of concentrating on our phones, smartwatches help us stay present and connected.

If you’ve been thinking about investing in a wrist device, let’s take a look at the reasons why you should buy a smartwatch.

1. Notifications on the Wrist

When it comes time to buy a new phone, you have to choose between a device running Google’s Android operating system and an Apple iPhone running iOS. You have a similar decision to make when it comes to smartwatches, although your best option will depend on the smartphone you use.

Unsurprisingly, the Apple Watch, with watchOS, integrates seamlessly with other Apple products. As a result, it is usually the best option for iPhone users. You will likely go for a smartwatch running Google’s Wear OS for anyone using an Android smartphone. While you can use a Wear OS device with your iPhone, there is a great reason to stay online with your smartphone: notifications.

Both smartwatch styles integrate with your smartphone, allowing you to receive notifications on your wrist. At a basic level, you can filter incoming calls, view new messages (and potentially reply to them), and interact with persistent notifications like music controls.

Therefore, instead of always paying attention to the sound of the phone ringing or the vibrations that incoming messages indicate, you can leave the phone in your purse or pocket. To see notifications, a slight flick of the wrist is all it takes, and you can decide whether you need to take care of an item right away or wait until later.

2. Advanced Fitness Tracking

Fitness trackers are handy wrist devices that allow you to track information about your daily physical activity. There are Fitbit trackers with features designed to help you stay healthy throughout the day. These units are so effective that, for many people, they are the first portable device if that’s in the cards for you.

Smartwatches come with the same built-in functions. You will be able to track your steps, monitor your heart rate, and analyze your sleep. Unlike fitness trackers, you can also use the apps installed on your smartphone and smartwatch. So even if you can buy a Fitbit, it will only work with the Fitbit app and services.

On the other hand, a smartwatch can run a wide variety of applications, including popular fitness tracking services like Strava. If you value cross-platform and multi-device support, a smartwatch is usually the best option, even if it is sometimes more expensive.

The fitness experience on the wrist is often more interactive, even on a smartwatch, as the larger color screen allows for a degree of customization.

3. Improved GPS Navigation

An increasing number of smartwatches are available with an integrated GPS sensor. For a long time, the only way to reap the benefits of fitness tracker apps was to keep your phone with you and your smartwatch connected via Bluetooth. If you opt for a GPS watch, you can install your favorite fitness tracker app, leave your phone at home, and still get accurate distance and location records.

The inclusion of GPS also allocates you to view and interact with turn-by-turn navigation. Like most people, you probably use Google Maps or Apple Maps to get to your destination. While it is acceptable when driving, it can be difficult when walking, running, or cycling.

In these situations, constantly looking at your phone is distracting and means you can overlook physical obstacles or dangers. Smartwatches with GPS often cost more than those without, so you may prefer to do without this feature. On the other hand, you can still get a few of the same benefits.

Both Google and Apple have developed smartwatch editions of their navigation apps. If your smartwatch is connected via Bluetooth, your phone can upload the route and send it to the watch to keep your eyes on the route ahead.

4. Easy Contactless Payments

One of the main reasons why you should buy a smartwatch is to make your life more comfortable and reduce dependence on the smartphone. This is why many wrist wearables support contactless payment systems. Services like Google Pay and Apple Pay are based on Near Field Communication (NFC) chips.

Most smartphones are equipped with NFC and increasingly also with smartwatches. While NFC is great for contactless payments, there are many other uses for NFC. Opting for a watch with NFC means that you can also enable Google Pay or Apple Pay (depending on your smartphone’s operating system) on your smartwatch.

This functionality resides directly in the watch, so you can use contactless payment by presenting the watch at the terminal, regardless of whether or not you have your smartphone. As a result, leaving your smartphone at home is even more practical and convenient, especially when exercising.
